In a partnership agreement between SSWUG.ORG and SolidQ, a fast-paced, in-person seminar on SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2 (SSRS) will be offered on Jan. 12-13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Seattle, Washington for students with previous experience and basic Reporting Services design skills.

Paul Turley, course instructor and SQL Server MVP, will teach practical design techniques based on industry best practices and real-world reporting applications. He will explain how to incorporate complex filtering logic with parameters into queries and dataset filters. Paul will also show how to build highly-usable composite report designs using nested data regions and report items, such as charts, gauges, sparklines, data bars and indicators.

Paul will also cover the following topics:
- Designing BI solutions with business dashboards
- Developing advanced reports for Analysis Services OLAP cubes with custom MDX queries
- Applying expressions and custom programming techniques to solve complex business problems
- Using external controls, web parts and programming code to automate reports and design custom reporting solutions

This session will be an overview of new end user Business Intelligence tools that will be delivered in SQL Server 2012, including Power View (formerly Project Crescent) and the Business Intelligence Semantic Model (BISM). Power View is a new tool that allows end users to visualize data and perform sophisticated analyses on their own. BISM provides a level of data abstraction which allows end users to find and select data without needing a deep understanding of database schema design or dimensional concepts.
