In March GITCA will run a 24 hour round-the-world virtual event focusing on Cloud
Computing, and we need your help. Please visit http://24hours.GITCA.org
[temporary site – a permanent site will be available shortly using the same URL]
to find out more and give us your topic suggestions, volunteer to help, or simply
provide your advice and feedback. You can also email
24HitC@GITCA.org . Although we want to feature a GITCA member group/association
for each hour of the event the speaker giving the presentation can be any knowledgeable
individual, for example an MCT, MVP or RD or indeed any knowledgeable member of
the group or community. Many MCT’s, MVP’s and RD’s present regularly at group meetings
and would make good presentation candidates.
To meet our March target we need to get many ideas and presenters as quickly as
possible. Too many ideas are far better than too few. We would much rather have
a difficult time selecting which ones to use. In fact our aim is to solicit your
input on which you feel would be the most popular/beneficial in much the same way
that the BOF voting is done for Tech·Ed.
GITCA is planning to be at Tech·Ed North America in May and running the BOF sessions
with our colleagues from INETA. So please look for us in the Community Lounge area.
As our plans evolve we will keep you posted.
A tool to do the conversion from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint 2010 is currently being evaluated.
It looks promising and we will keep those with current WSS 3.0 sites informed as
to the progress and schedule for conversion.
All new requests for hosted SharePoint sites will be fulfilled using SharePoint
2010 Enterprise Edition. To request a new SharePoint 2010 site for your group, please
http://sharepoint.msugss.com/AboutUs/Pages/Technical-Support.aspx and follow
the instructions under “Request a SharePoint site”
One sure shot way to ensure that your community is involved is to work on ideas
that encourage community participation. For instance a really simple one is Share
a Tip Day. The idea is to encourage the community to share their best ideas in less
than 150 words and ensure that there is a way for people to rate those ideas. Ok
why 150 words, it’s simple it’s a tip not an article. Secondly, it reduces the barrier
in peoples’ minds to contribute. You could also turn this into mini-session: let’s
say you have four or more people who come up during a meeting and spend 15 minutes
explaining their ideas/tips.
